Frequently Asked Questions
How does training multiple ages work?
In Season IX Groundworks will move to an age and skill level based model, with dancers training at the appropriate level for technique. In addition, we will train across ages in select classes, as we have seen this approach be highly beneficial for both younger and more mature dancers.
How are solos given out?
Solos are an option for all dancers at Groundworks, across all three programs. We believe that solos are significant development opportunities and shouldn’t be restricted. Duets and trios may be available upon request.
Why does Groundworks prioritize convention competitions over stage events?
Conventions offer outside training that is important for a dancer’s development and exposure. Competing at an advanced level in a convention setting shows our dancers what their true potential is. Additionally, convention-style classes help dancers learn the skills required to pick up choreography quickly, a skill required for those wishing to dance in high school on their dance or drill team, and beyond.
Drill team
Speaking of drill team, does Groundworks work with drill team schedules? Yes. Each year we have drill team dancers training and competing with our performing company. We build our competition schedule with drill competition schedules in mind.
Is outside training allowed?
If outside options don’t conflict with a company member’s commitment to Groundworks, outside training, including competing and attending events outside of our company schedule, is allowed.
What elevates your studio to the advanced or elite level?
Dance is an art form. Our choreography prioritizes storytelling and classical technique over trends on the competition stage. Each of our faculty members is an experienced teacher who is currently dancing professionally or has danced professionally in the past.
Our small studio size and a high-level of involvement from our owner and director means every dancer gets personalized attention and goal-oriented support.
What is the financial commitment?
Tuition and competition expenses are comparable to other studios in the Dallas area. Families have the flexibility to select the number of dances they participate in. Tuition costs vary depending on the program selected. At the onset of each season, we share a calculator that provides an approximate cost based on the dancer’s program and group selections. If you have questions about our programs or the related costs, we will schedule a time to call you to answer whatever questions you may have.
